Viewing connection as creative act places emphasis on selection and arrangement. Traditional ideas of text, to which we still cling, identify writing with positive objects: this text distinguished from all others. The relations between texts are taken to indicate both similarity and difference....The individualist ethic is supported and perpetuated by institutionalized standards of text that value "original" words over connection. (Johnson-Eilola 26)

The primacy of connection in electrate writing is key here. The writer makes connections between texts, and in doing so does creative work.
