![]() Reading hypertext can be very difficult. Depending on the author's taste, a reader can expect to encounter anything from a highly organized, linear text like Amazon.com to a multilinear, looping text like Shelley Jackson's Patchwork Girl. Many hypertext critics have focused on the change in narrative structure that occurs as writers move from literate forms (like print) to electrate forms (like hypertext). These critics have discussed ways for writers and readers to communicate efficiently. One of the paths I've laid out through a Produced Space is indicated by the compass icon (upper left). While you, gentle reader, do have the option of following whichever links most thoroughly pique your curiosity, I've also given you the option of following the compass icon through the text. Following this path will not bring you to all the pages in this hypertext, but merely reflect one journey through the space I've constructed. To follow the compass icon (or any other icon), click on it. |
