Teaching Logs

We designed the teacher logs to capture as much information as possible about the planning and execution of classes, contacts with students, and teachers' perceptions of students' progress. At the beginning of the semester, we gave teachers a list of prompts to complete their teacher logs. Key information that emerged from the teacher logs included contacts with students, changes made during class sessions in response to differences between settings, and successes and difficulties teachers encountered in each classroom. Initially, we asked teachers to indicate the students they talked to during each class. We dropped this prompt, however, after discussions with the teachers indicated that they had difficulty recalling who they did and did not talk with during each class.
