The flâneur is a figure from turn-of-the-century Paris. He would stroll up and down the arcades, distinct from the mobbing masses by nothing more than his attitude, and observe the world. The mental processes that Benjamin attributed to the flâneur are perfect processes for hypertext authors to emulate.

One of the paths I've laid out through a Produced Space is indicated by the flâneur icon (upper left). While you do have the option of following whichever links pique your curiosity, I've also given you the option of following the flâneur icon through the text. Following this path will not bring you to all the pages in this hypertext, but merely reflect one journey through the space I've constructed.

To follow the flâneur icon (or any other icon), click on it.
