Self-Reflexivity

An excerpt from "On-line Psychic Readings: The Road to the Emerald City of Answers," by Sheryl Camurungan, a student from my Intermediate Composition class during the summer of 2001:

“Most of these chat room participants displayed similar insecurities that I have discovered in my life. I was interested in finding something I felt was out of control. For me, family, career, and other such things as these were out of that category. So what was left? I noticed a pattern among the other on-line partakers. They were seeking love, which brought me to the realization that this is something I felt was out of my reach, something I could use help in discovering. I now felt a bond to the room and was prepared to initiate my participation in the chats. I had chosen my adventure, experienced vibes from different cultures, and found a sense of belonging in this realm of the cyberworld.”
