Computers & Writing (C&W), an annual, post-secondary conference, is actively soliciting proposals for a special strand entitled, "Technology and Literacy," from the K-College community for its upcoming conference, "Evolution, Revolution, and Implementation: Computers and Writing for Global Change."

The ever-growing array of communication technologies and the even more disparate range of technical experience that students and teachers bring to educational settings have created something of a dilemma for those involved in literacy education. If education professionals hope to remain a central force in defining culture-wide literacy practices, it is essential that we explore every aspect of our changing literacy patterns.

We invite proposals that explore

  • the impact of new media on the literacy skills of students and teachers
  • the impact of these technologies on literacy pedagogy and curriculum design
  • implications for cultural-wide literacy practices.
Special K-12 Teacher Registration: A one-day registration fee of $75 for all K-12 teachers and administrators who wish to attend the special "Teachers and Administrators Day" presentations and workshops to be held on Saturday, May 27, 2000. Beside this special strand held in the afternoon, another entitled "Teaching with Technology, K-College," will be held that morning. Additionally, topics at the breakfast and luncheon are aimed at at K-12 audience.

Use the online proposal submission forms for full details about formats for panels, presentations, posters, and workshops. Be sure to designate Technology and Literacy Strand among the categories you identify for your proposal. Deadline is October 15, 1999.
