Computers & Writing (C&W), an annual, national conference, is actively soliciting proposals for a special strand entitled, "Teaching with Computers, K-College," for its upcoming conference, "Evolution, Revolution, and Implementation: Computers and Writing for Global Change."
It is appropriate that this K-12 inclusion happen on the dawn of the new millennium. Collaborations and partnerships between post-secondary and K-12 schools are sprouting up all over the country due to the presence and widespread use of the technology available and being used at all levels. In addition, students are using the technology at younger ages and with more frequency both in and out of school. It seems only natural then that educators across the country from kindergarten to graduate school gather together and share in their best practices and compare their ideas.
This very special event asks that all educators seriously consider and reflect on their own teacher scholarship as it pertains to the use of computers in their classrooms. Part of our professional growth and scholarship is making our work public and then having it peer reviewed. Doing so helps us defend our theory and fine-tune our practice. CW2K offers a rich audience of practical theorists to help make teacher scholarship both fruitful and rewarding.
Proposal topics may include:
- assessment and accountability
- creative and effective uses of how technology has enhanced the learning of the students and how technology has made the opportunity to learn more available to all students
- demonstrations of how your practice with computers reflects your theory
- suggestions for making make our work available to other scholars for their own implementation
Special K-12 Teacher Registration: A one-day registration fee of $75 for all K-12 teachers and administrators who wish to attend the special "Teachers and Administrators Day" presentations and workshops to be held on Saturday, May 27, 2000. Beside this special strand held in the morning, another entitled " Technology & Literacy" will be held that afternoon. Additionally, topics at the breakfast and luncheon are aimed at a K-12 audience.
Use the online proposal submission forms for full details about formats for panels, presentations, posters, and workshops. Be sure to designate Teaching with Computers, K-College Strand among the categories you identify for your proposal. Deadline is October 15, 1999.
