The reading and writing, the technological access and the sharing of cultures through the Internet is a good idea, but it leaves behind the majority of Black South Africans who do not have access to university. In that way, technology is widening the gap between those who can access university and those who cannot and it contradicts the long-term goals of globalization: that of free communication, integration, and inclusion
If theconnected few like me could throw a rope to those still in the dungeons of poverty, which is perpetrated by disconnectedness with the world, we could all walk on the borderless world of globalization.
Through the Sharing Cultures Project, we are globalizing. Unlike many opponents of globalization, who feel it is threatening their local cultures, we are not afraid. Instead we are desperate to catch-up because apartheid has delayed us. There is no way globalization can threaten our local cultures if we share them. Instead, other societies will understand why we do things differently and if they believe in our purpose, they will adopt some aspects of our cultures just like we also do with the American culture. We are not Americanized, but we preserve our cultures while we adopt useful practices of the American culture. Opponents of globalization are afraid the world is Americanized and that local cultures will disappear. However, local cultures will not disappear if they are understood and respected as culture.
